Boost
As a part of our final assignment in a business ethics course, my teammate Katrina Schouten and I were tasked with creating a learning module for a topic from the course. We decided to make a card game based around product competitive advantage and the traits needed for products to succeed.
My Role
My tasks included collaborating with Katrina on researching our topic and coming up with the overall game concept as well as all of the asset and website design.
Game Concept
Each player represents a company and wants to sell the best product. There are 4 traits that each product has; quality, quantity, brand prestige and media virality. By answering questions based around business ethics, other players will rank your response. The points you are given become your companies currency to purchase better product traits. The person with the highest overall product traits points wins the game! To have a better understanding of the game, read the instructions to your left and right or take a look at the Boost website.
The Design Process
The first thing that Katrina and I did was refresh ourselves on everything that we had learned in our business ethics course. Once we chose a topic that we felt comfortable with, we delved into it further and took note of everything we knew and understood about it.
We then went through a design sprint to ideate and prototype our game. This was a very rich and lengthy process and many iterations were made before we got to our final product.
Once we had a final prototype for our game, we created content for all of the cards including traits, company descriptions and business ethics questions.
Working in Figma, I then created a mood board for the game and delved into the design of each individual card. I also designed the box that the game would be packaged in.
As an extra component to submit to our professor, I printed out all of the cards and created a physical version of our game.
